5 Painless Ways to Prepare For Your Post Holiday Fitness Goals: Part 4
Alright, you're transforming mentally with your reading (or audiobooks), have your support system and you've set your goals. What's next? I will admit that this one is something that seemed a little bit cheesy and ridiculous to me when I first started doing it, but I have since become a believer in it's power.
4- Positive Affirmations
Ok...hear me out. Before you roll your eyes and dismiss this as something that really won't make that big of a difference, consider this. When Jim Carrey was a struggling actor he would drive up to Mulholland Drive and visualize his success. He also wrote himself a check for ten million dollars for "acting services rendered" and dated it for five years later. He looked at that check every day affirming to himself that it was his. Then just before Thanksgiving 1995, exactly five years later, he found out he was going to make ten million dollars on Dumb and Dumber. This is such a strong example of the power of the human mind and the laws of attraction.
We have internal dialogue going on constantly that is shaping who we are. Start to notice things that you think or even say out loud when it comes to your own health and fitness. We tell ourselves lies so often. "I'm not good at working out. I hate running. I don't have time to cook meals. I always fail at my resolutions. I'm not strong enough. This is gonna suck. I will try, but... People will judge me"...and on and on. Some times we follow these things with a positive statement, but the fact is that we have already communicated with our subconscious what the "truth" is and it will begin the process immediately of making sure that it brings that "truth" to fruition. Your subconscious mind is like the fertile soil that you plant seeds in. Your conscious mind is the gardener. Whatever seed you plant the soil will grow it. It doesn't ask if it's a weed or roses, it just does it's job and grows what the gardener plants. This is why it is UNBELIEVABLY important that we are planting things that we actually want to see grow.
You can decide on a few affirmations today and begin saying them to yourself throughout the month to prepare you to reach your goals. It's important that there is no negativity in them. For example, "I'm not gonna be fat anymore and I'm gonna lose weight" both have negative words in them, "lose and fat". Instead you can say,"I am healthy and I am strong." Those are also present tense which tells your subconscious that is who you are, therefore, act accordingly. Here are a few that I love for reaching health and fitness goals:
I am strong.
I am healthy.
I am grateful for food and how it nourishes my body.
I am beautiful and I accept and love my body.
I am unstoppable.
I can achieve anything.
I am in control of my future.
I am in control of my body.
I accept myself for who I am.
I am passionate about being my best.
I am giving myself the strong, healthy body I deserve.
Think about the things that often come between you and reaching those goals. Maybe it's an unhealthy relationship with food. Maybe, like me, your aversion to health and fitness is because of some emotional baggage that you are carrying around. Maybe you are allowing yourself to fail in order to protect yourself from something you are afraid of. Whatever it may be, find the affirmations that speak to you and repeat them over and over. See yourself as that person and feel how good it feels. The more emotion behind the affirmation, the more your subconscious accepts it and runs grows it. You can set aside five minutes a day, in the shower, in the car, in bed at night, when you wake up or whenever you choose is best for you. Just say them again and again and know that you are planting those seeds and watering your mental garden and you WILL see the growth of what you are planting.
You have the power to consciously choose words that will either help eliminate something from your life or help create something new in your life. "You have the power to heal yourself, and you need to know that. We think so often that we are helpless, but we’re not. We always have the power of our minds. Claim and consciously use your power."-Louise Hay
