5 Painless Ways to Prepare For Your Post Holiday Fitness Goals: Part 2


Part One was about filling your mind with motivation. Start reading and get inspired from the inside out. It’s so much easier to find the inspiration to transform physically when we are already transforming mentally. This next part involves going outside of yourself and may be uncomfortable for some, but it is my humble opinion that success is near impossible without it.

2- Find Your Support System

These are people that you admire, people that will listen without judgement, people that will not belittle your successes or dwell on your failures, instead they will lift you up when you need it and give you the truth when you don't want to hear it. They don't have to have the same goals as you or even a health and fitness goal. What you need to have in common is that you are working on better versions of yourselves. You know that friend that says..."Don't offer Susan the cake, she's eating healthy." They say this with an eye roll and an emphatic disdain for your new found desire to be healthy. Yeah...I'm not talking about that friend!

My support system includes many different types of people, but all of them are quick to congratulate me on small successes in reaching my goals and remind me constantly of how far I've come. We are all excited about each other's success because it motivates us, encourages us to up our own games. I can say to them, "I'm going to workout for the next four days" and I am now accountable to them. They will love me if I succeed or fail, but their belief in me makes me not ever want to fail. These are the people in your life that if you want something for yourself, they want it for you almost as bad as you do. The bonus is that you get to cheer them on in whatever goals they have for themselves, be that support for them when they struggle and be inspired by their drive to be better.

Find yourself a support group today. It can be two or ten of you, but find people now and get excited for what you are going to do in the New Year. Share your goals with them. Hell, have a goal setting party. Find a way to communicate daily like the Glide App or Marco Polo App. Don't be afraid to be vulnerable because those are the times that you will grow most and learn the most about yourself. Knowing that you have that support system going into the New Year is invaluable. One of my favorite quotes sums this up quite nicely. "Surround yourself with the dreamers and the doers, the believers and thinkers, but most of all, surround yourself with those who see the greatness within you, even when you don’t see it yourself."-Edmund Lee
